    Dr. Carpenter attended undergraduate school at Texas A & M University from1991 to 1995. From 1991 until 1994 he maintained a 4.0 GPA while studying Biomedical Science and made the Deans List for Academic Excellence six times in three years. He began dental school in San Antonio in 1995 and was awarded his Doctorate Degree in Dentistry at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, which at the time, had the highest ranking among dental schools in the United States.

    While in dental school, Dr. Carpenter traveled to Guatamala to perform surgical dental services for the underserved and those without access to care (pics). Dr. Carpenter would describe it as a true “life altering” experience. “The personal rewards of giving and caring for a patient selflessly, without a commercial exchange, are unmatched. The gift of the experience was mine”, says Dr. Carpenter. This selfless spirit of caring and giving to patients can be felt in his private practice today. “How can I help this person of infinite worth” is the mantra that guides his daily interaction with his patients. For Dr. Carpenter, there is nothing more personally rewarding than giving selflessly and being able to help someone in need.

    Following graduation from dental school in 1999, Dr. Carpenter completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency at Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital in San Antonio. Through the residency, Dr. Carpenter received training in all aspects of dental care. From cosmetic procedures like veneers or cosmetic periodontal surgeries and implant dentistry to rotations in geriatrics, hospital dentistry, anesthesia and advanced cardiac life support, this type of residency is completed by fewer than 10% of the practicing dentists in the United States. This invaluable training continues to benefit the quality of care in Dr. Carpenters office each and every day.

    Upon completion of the residency, Dr. Carpenter began working for the Public Health Service and accepted a position as the director of dental services in a clinic near Chama, New Mexico called La Clinica del Pueblo de Rio Arriba. While in New Mexico, Dr. Carpenter helped to treat the underserved community and establish several preventive-oriented programs like sealants for children and nutritional counseling for pregnant mothers with respect to improving their oral health and their unborn child’s opportunity for health. This very challenging and experience-rich time continues to serve Dr. Carpenter and his patients daily in the “spirit” of generosity, concern and care with which they deliver care.

    Dr. Carpenter is or has been a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Capital Area Dental Society, the Seattle Study Club, Lone Star Dental Seminars, Balcones Study Club, the International Association of Dental Research and is a graduate of the Shuster Center for Professional Development. In addition, through his various professional affiliations, Dr. Carpenter has had the opportunity to study and train with literally some of the finest dentists in clinical practice today. Dr. Carpenter has additional training in dental digital imaging and routinely performs a complimentary dietary analysis to see if diet and/or lifestyle could be contributing to disease.

    Dr. Carpenter has a special interest in nutrition and chronic disease prevention and continually explores alternative approaches to improving the overall wellness and quality of the lives of the patients he serves. Dr. Carpenter has long-term goals of becoming a real wellness resource for patients wanting to take control of their health and live life to the fullest.

    In his spare time, Dr. Carpenter enjoys spending time with his 2 children, McKenna and Jackson. He also enjoys playing and watching music, movies, outdoor physical activities (hiking, camping, snowboarding, bicycling), coastal fishing, photography, cooking, gardening, travel and spiritual growth. He has a Brittany Spaniel named Chama and keeps fresh-water tropical fish.
